It’s safe to say that contagious laughter is better than having a contagious disease. I mean, saying “I almost died from laughing so hard” is objectively different from “I almost died from having cancer.”
I think almost all of us can agree that Foreign Accent Syndrome is pretty damn funny, even to the American fella trying to make time with a woman in a London pub using a high-pitched Monty Python voice. “Helloooo, do I come here often?!”
And laughter has positive benefits. It relieves stress, improves mood, boosts the immune system, and promotes relaxation. It releases the same chemicals as sex, the good kind, which sorta makes a comedy show something of an orgy, though not as messy.
Laughter isn’t exclusive to humans. Dogs enjoy a good cat joke. Dolphins click and whistle at Killer Whale jokes. Rats, parrots and apes emit their own forms of laughter. Everyone knows the animal easiest to get a laugh from is the hyena. They laugh at anything.
Anyhoo, enjoy this episode, which originally aired in April of 2024. I sound like a little kid.
